Update #1: “Space Gold” or “How I learned about oxygen”

Here’s what’s new:
1. Ability to get out of the ship and collect space gold… whatever that is. Shiny!
2. Cool new spooky lighting!
3. Ability to place “beacons” for light sources as well as for markers.
4. New map codes for generating specific maps. Letters and numbers!
5. New and improved iPhone home screen icon.
6. Updated credits with list of contributors… you guys!

As always, let me know what you like, what you don’t like, what you want changed and what bugs you find. Hopefully this version will spark some new ideas to build off of! The whole process has been super fun so far and I’m excited for everyone to play the update and send in their feedback!

I agree with FortyKingTreason about the build a level thing, And if you have aliens in it you should try and make them like the xenomorphs from the movie Aliens. Love that movie

Also the whole picking up gold thing is great makes me keep goin through a whole cave, but whenever you start a new map all gold goes away.Of course u cant spend it yet but still gone? :)

Thanks, Blake! Yea, unfortunately since there’s no game aspect currently a new map pretty much means a new game ( ie., reset all stats including gold ). Eventually you’ll be able to save your game into slots or something so you won’t lose any of your gold :)

You definitly should try to make a Multiplayer Mode with funny Minigames! That would be great :-)

I like the new update! Is there any way to go from controlling the beacon back to controlling the ship?

Just some of my thoughts from the recent update.
When playing as the spaceman I’m struggling to navigate certain areas, mainly anything at 2 pixel high walls or above, the spaceman takes a while to move up and across. Could this be edited to make navigation quicker in that instance.
I’ve got stranded a couple of times, which is my own fault I guess, could there possibly be some kind of ‘retract option’ so the player is auto pulled back to the ship, this could be accessed via the spaceman menu.
When in spaceman mode could there be a risk of attack from aliens, the longer away from the ship the greater the risk of attack.
I find the gold a little difficult to spot, maybe there could a glint? Perhaps there are other rare materials to be collected, gems etc that have different in-game currency values.
Ship movement could be affected by the amount of gold carried, so the more gold the slower the ship but you will get a bigger bonus for depositing more gold in one go.
It seems to me that there’s already a kind of inter galactic gold rush story/theme developing, this could be a cool background and make for good multiplayer battles, stealing each others gold,
planting explosive landmines, could even have a fools gold variant that glints so opposing players think it’s gold only to get blown up.

@Wallaby: Yup! Just hit the little space man icon when you’re close to the ship again and you’ll hop back in!

@Ken Kercheval Yea, it’s definitely not final.. I’m not 100% sold on the movement mechanic yet for him. The good news is that this update was mainly to “proof out” the concept and he’ll get more refined in future updates! And some cool ideas you have there! Would you mind adding them to the Google Moderator idea page for people to vote on ( if they’re not there already )? Thanks!
